Ajay Devgan whipping up the laughs in All The Best

Ajay

When Ajay Devgan first heard he had to whip himself in London Dreams, he wasn’t comfortable with the idea. But after director Vipul Shah convinced him to do so, the actor went all out and flogged himself black and blue for hours to get a 25-second clip right.

"We had a detailed discussion. Audiences could easily end up laughing at what is meant to be a moment of extreme self-loathing. Ajay was very concerned about how he would look whipping himself on screen. I assured him that we’d shoot the sequence in a way that it would look nothing less than stunning," said director Vipul Shah.

It’s a sequence where the impulsive emotional character punishes himself. "It is sequence of repentance, but it is not religious. I saw the self-flagellation as a perfectly-defining moment for the character. It’s not done with a whip. It’s done with a belt. And Ajay hit himself powerfully. Once or twice I called ’cut’ in more ways than one. But Ajay didn’t want a cut. He didn’t want to go through the experience in pieces. It was that harrowing for him," said Shah.

"And that too for a shot which would last no more than 25 seconds on screen. I’d tell him that we should stop. But Ajay insisted we do it non-stop. We didn’t want the aesthetics to be lost. I’ve never taken longer on any sequence."

Shah admits that sequence goes against Ajay’s image. "It’s not a very macho thing to do. And it certainly goes against the image of the action hero and the comic hero. Quite naturally Ajay was zapped when he heard that he was to do sequence which required him to punish himself by whipping himself."

The director also clarifies that the scene has nothing to do with religion and that Ajay isn’t playing a Muslim character in London Dreams.

"I’d be very alarmed if people see in a religious light. It’d just show we’re cynical about religion. Ajay plays a very intense and emotional character who does shock people with his extreme behaviour. I wanted to shock audiences.

"Ajay’s character is on the edge. I had to show that edginess. Ajay is such a chilled-out, in-control person. He would never be expected to punish himself. But I’d rather let the character define its actions rather than the image of actor."

The film, that also stars Salman Khan and Asin Thottumkal, is scheduled for an October 30 release. Does Shah expect censor trouble? "I expect trouble from the censors any time."

Right before we see Ajay whipping himself, we get him whipping up the laughs in All The Best. The laugh riot, which is directed by Rohit Shetty, is set for October 16 release.

Aparna Sen was choseing a Kajol, as her father was a Bengali-language!

KAJOL

It’s a honor to work with ace filmmaker Aparna Sen but recently Kajol has turned down her offer as the script failed to impress her. The film titled ‘Iti Mrinalini’ and it is supposedly based on Aparna Sen’s real life. Kajol has been decided to play the younger Aparna Sen while Aparna herself to play the ageing actress but surprisingly Kajol rejected the offer.

Aparna chose Kajol as her father was a Bengali and the language is known to her. The source says, "After chasing the young actress for some months to hear a narration, she got a date from her but fifteen minutes into the narration, Kajol excused herself and walked out. After waiting for an half-an-hour, Aparna realised that she was not coming back and left the Devgan residence, smarting with humiliation. Now she has cast her daughter Konkona in the role. A few years ago, Aparna was to direct Kajol’s husband Ajay Devgan in PNC’s Gulel but that project fell through even though Ajay had liked the script".

Aparna Sen rubbishes the rumor saying, "Absolute rubbish! I never even thought of Kajol for Iti Mrinalini which is a small budget Bengali film where Konkona and I were always supposed to be playing the younger and older age of the same person. Kajol was never even considered! I have never met her."

However, Kajol’s spokesman denies the meeting.

Kareena Kapoor is very particular about those that don her feet

Kareena

A lot of your personality is revealed with the kind of footwear that you wear. No wonder Kareena Kapoor is very particular about those that don her feet. A close pal of Kareena said, "Kareena is particular about her footwear. It’s only YSL or Christian Louboutin for her.

The slippers that she wears at home are from Hermes. " Kareena bought six pairs of slippers of same style from Hermes recently. "Kareena likesto have same slippers of different colours, " said the friend.

The friend adds, "When it comes to casuals Kareena prefers jeans and T-shirts while it is formal wear for parties. Kareena prefers Roberto Cavalli and Valentino designs for her western wear.

Though she loves Valentino trousers, jackets, sweaters and knits, Kareena feels that when it comes to the perfect fit, Cavalli is best.

But as far as Indian designers are concerned it’s Manish Malhotra for her, " said the source.

Feroz Khan spend nearly three days with his beloved animals

feroz_k

Bollywood film industry faced a grave loss with the death of the veteran actor Firoz Khan who died after fighting a prolonged battle with cancer. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer at Mumbai.

Firoz Khan was known for his love for fashion, style and love for animals. While at the hospital a few days back, Feroz expressed his wish to visit his farmhouse in Bangalore to be with his pet animals, mainly horses and dogs.

Owing to his poor health condition, the doctors were reluctant to give him the permission for a long journey. However, son Fardeen understood his father’s desire and as he waited for his dad’s condition to improve, he made arrangements for a special chartered flight to Bangalore. Finally, last week, when the doctors gave Feroz the go-ahead for a short trip, Fardeen, accompanied by nurses, flew his father to the farmhouse.

Feroz Khan got to spend nearly three days at his farm with his beloved animals before he breathed his last after midnight on Sunday.
