When I Grow Up

bassett-road_03
I've been reading Twilight, flipping through Teen Vogue, and sipping hot cocoa. Apparently, I'm a thirteen year old girl again. Or still?

Regardless, I want this to be my bedroom—right now and five years ago. That wallpaper! Those dresses! That vanity! I need this room in my life. I wonder what my future husband would think of this as a master bedroom?

A Flurry of Style

It snowed nonstop today, which I took as a sign to cuddle up in front of the fire with a thick book (New Moon), a great movie (500 Days of Summer), and a mug of hot tea (Nutcracker Sweet).

Turns out, the snow storm even spread to one of my favorite blogs, Dress Design & Decor. All of the stylish snapshots and perfectly chosen pictures look even more magical with an expected dusting of flurries. See for yourself!

How about you? Do you like snow?

A Room of One's Own

As I've been spending a few hours a day unpacking, my little college apartment's room decor has been on my mind. A lot.

One of my favorite ways to dress up my room--quite literally--is with the help of pieces from my closet. Madewell really masters this idea in the charming snapshot above, and is really inspiring me to dig around in my wardrobe for repurposed decorations. Wouldn't shoes make a lovely bookend? Wouldn't necklaces be ideal wall decor? Wouldn't vintage scarves make gorgeous framed art?

How do you decorate your dorm? Or humble abode?

Dresses as Home Decor

I always loved the idea of showcasing my favorite pairs of shoes on shelves across my walls, or artfully hanging necklaces in lieu of the ubiquitous Breakfast at Tiffany's movie poster. Fashion is beautiful, and since you can only wear one outfit at a time, you might as well display your little-worn but much-loved pieces.

Design Sponge visited the jewelry designer behind Esther K, and her home uncannily mirrored her whimsical baubles. Now I'm inspired to keep my prettiest dresses out in the open with a rolling rack, use a vintage dress form to show off my latest favorite, and store all of my accessory odds and ins in antique hat boxes.

Knock Knock

One of my favorite duties during this summer's internship has been contributing to Nesting, Cookie's home decorating blog. All of the sudden, I'm constantly seeking out cute wall decals and decor DIYs and charming home furnishings. Now alongside my once single-minded fashion bookmarks, you can find "I wish I lived there" sites like Apartment Therapy, Desire to Inspire, and Creature Comforts. These favorites, and many more, have opened my eyes to a whole new world of design -- home design.

Just like I can peek into Teen Vogue to dream about aspirational fashion, I can peek onto Design Sponge to dream about aspirational homes, especially as I sit here in a mini-blinded, white-walled dorm room.

Do you read design blogs? What's your favorite?

(P.S. This photograph is of a recent house tour I did for Cookie. Don't you just want to move in and spend the rest of your life reading her books? I do.)

Dorm Life

"...It is in fact a perfectly authentic expression of the 21-year-old college senior who was voted 'preppiest in the class' at Choate Rosemary Hall and has a sincere love for Stubbs & Wootton slipper shoes and melon-colored pants. 'I can’t live in a minimalist world,' says Sinsteden, who is majoring in French and art history. 'For me, it’s all about eclecticism.'"

I wish I could hire this boy to come decorate my college bedroom. I thought I was unique, with my antique dresser and heirloom vanity, but Maximilian Sinsteden has decked his dorm out with oriental rugs, tartan plaid throws, and paisley pillows from Charlotte Moss. And that's only the beginning.

It almost makes me want to relive my dorm-dwelling freshman year. Almost.
