Well, Preity Zinta is one of those few who has been bestowed with an honorary doctorate. The University of East London (UEL) bestowed the actress with an honorary doctorate of the Arts for her contribution to cinema and humanitarian work at a special ceremony hosted by UEL on yesterday.

Along with Preity, the others conferred with honorary degrees were Lord Dholakia, OBE and Professor Lord Parekh.

Preity said, “I am humbled and excited at the nomination as it really makes me feel that my work has been worthy. I may not have managed to become a doctor in my younger years but that dream is now being fulfilled.”

UEL Vice-Chancellor Professor Patrick McGhee said, “I am delighted that we are able to honour Preity Zinta. We noticed her involvement in the Delhi blood donor camps and her tireless work in raising awareness for the challenges faced over AIDS, human trafficking and the plight of street children. Her involvement as Ambassador for the Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards and the Loomba Trust proves that she is not afraid to stand up for justice and those in need. We have also noted her writing over the past 10 years on important topics for the BBC.” Way to go Preity, more power to you.

Preity Zinta signed a film with model turned actor producer

Preity Zinta who had been out of action is not back and has apparently signed a film with model turned actor producer, Aseem Merchant. Though there is no official announcement yet, but rumours are that the film has gone on floors.

The film is produced by Aseem’s production company, Limelight Motion Pictures. Preity was last seen in Deepa Mehta’s ’Videsh’ early this year and Samir Karnik’s ’Hero’ last year is all gearing up for another innings in Bollywood .

Her forthcoming films include Jahnu Barua’s ’Har Pal’ where she will be seen with Shiney Ahuja and Eesha Koppikar.

’Har Pal’ is almost ready and was awaiting Shiney’s release from custody and with Shiney back to work, it is likely that the film will release early next year.

Preity Zinta gives financial support for 34 girls

Preity Zinta has adopted 34 girls from an orphanage in the Indian city of Rishikesh.

Although the girls will not live with Zinta, they will receive financial support from the 34-year-old actress.

She told The Times Of India: "I’ll be looking after their entire upbringing from education to food, clothes, etc. You’ve no idea how wonderful it feels to hear the excited chatter of all these girls together.

"These are my children now, my responsibility. I’ll be constantly connected with them and I’ll visit them twice a year."

Zinta, who will be seen next in Jahnu Barua’s Har Pall, plans to continue adopting more girls from the orphanage every year.

Preity is looking forward to doing quality work

Priety Zinta dimpled her way into the hearts of million of fans with the Perk commercial directed by Shekhar Kapoor more than a decade back.

Since she has come to a stage where she knows that she has had a long and outstanding innings to play. She has now moved on to IPL and made a mark there is no looking back for the actress.

The worse for the glamorous Bollywood owners in IPL

The date 20th May will go down as one of the worse for the glamorous Bollywood owners of the two most happening franchisees of the Indian Premier League , going on in South Africa. The franchisees in question were the Rajasthan Royals, owned by the beautiful Shilpa Shetty and Kings XI Punjab, whose owner is the pretty and perky, Preity Zinta.

Cricket lovers and fans across the world who were following these matches were in for a shock as both the teams bowed out of the contest by losing their respective matches yesterday, without even putting up a fight. The worst off is Shilpa Shetty here as her team Rajasthan Royals (who were the champions last year), is out of the semi-final race. Preity Zinta’s team has very slight hopes of a semi-final berth. And that will depend on how other teams perform. Preity’s team too had a good IPL last year as it had reached the semi-finals. So, on the whole the second season of IPL has proved to be a lackluster one for Bollywood owners, much similar to the box-office fate of the films, this year.

The only silver lining in the clouds yesterday (20th May) was the win by Shah Rukh Khan’s team, Kolkata Knight Riders over Shilpa Shetty’s Rajasthan Royals. But even that was not much to cheer about as Shah Rukh’s team is already out of semi-final due to the bad patch which ended with last two successive wins. The only good thing was that the KKR team salvaged its pride with the two wins.

Here’s hoping for a great comeback for all the Bollywood owners at IPL next season.
