In an effort to fit in as many Midwest activities as possible, I found myself at a good ol' Missouri county fair last night. My hometown has a fair every summer, and it used to be the highlight of the season. Because it took place just a few weeks before school started, we would use it as an opportunity to show off our back-to-school clothes. Will I ever stop missing back-to-school shopping?
I wish I could have worn a floral dress and cowboy boots like a real country girl, but most of my clothes are somewhere in the middle of United States because of my impending move so I decided on a madras mini skirt (long enough to wear on rides, plaid enough to fit in with the farmers) and navy V-neck (because getting dirty at the county fair is inevitable -- there are funnel cakes to eat and muddy farm animals to pet).
I spent two hours riding rides that gave me near-heart attacks every time (part of the problem could have been the carnival food), but I survived... and it did wonders preparing me for Coney Island adventures to come.
